Upside Down Day, an Award, Linky Love

Yesterday was completely turned upside down, and it was kind of nice.  The night before, Maxfield fell asleep at 5pm.  This occasionally happens, and, when it does, there’s just no use in trying to wake him.  Since he does sometimes still take a nap, it is conceivable that he could sleep through the night at this point, which is what happened.  Wyatt, on the other hand, is not so much of a sleeper.  He’s missed naps several times in the last 2 weeks, and is always up at the butt crack of dawn, no matter what.

Yesterday morning, due to the circumstances, both boys woke up at 4 am.  Yes, you read that correctly…. I said 4 am.   Max was nice enough to go wake up daddy, even though I was laying right next to him (don’t ask),  but since Wyatt can’t be left out of anything anymore, he was quick behind.  Needless to say, we were left wondering what to do with ourselves by about 8 am.  Hmm…. too early to go out.  It was supposed to rain anyway.

I remembered I still needed to clean up the hedge trimmings from the night before, so we headed outside to squeeze in some work before the rain came.  There’s also an enormous bed in front of the house that we’re in process of digging out, so there was plenty of dirt to keep the boys entertained.  Did I mention they like dirt?  Holy cow is that the understatement of the century.

Afterwards, there was just no way around it, they stripped down & I hit them with the hose.  It felt like that scene in Pulp Fiction after Vincent & Jules are done “cleaning” the car– only less blood.  Still not good enough.  It was tub time.   Let me just say, I came inside saying to myself, “It better be after 10″….. it was 9:44.  I had already exhausted myself for the day & it wasn’t even lunchtime yet??

I didn’t so much as have them in the tub when the monsoon started.  Not only was it strange giving them a bath at 10 am (they always get them at night), but it got so dark out, it actually felt like night.  Outta the tub, into fresh clothes, downstairs for a snack, & both kids were zonked out on the couch by 11 am.

Ahhhh, silence.

The only sound was the rhythm of the rain falling.  It was so nice.  I love rainy days.  Especially when the rest of the house is quiet & I have the freedom to read a book, take a nap, get caught up on some sewing….  I picked the last one.  It didn’t last long.  Wyatt was up again by 12:30…. little stinker.  It was heaven while it lasted.  Now I was faced with filling an entire afternoon when I’m used to naps happening from 1-3ish.   Totally thrown again.

Obviously, we managed, and it was kind of nice stepping out of our normal routine.  I wouldn’t want to do it everyday, but the boys didn’t seem to mind the indoor playtime.  It sort of gave me a new perspective on things.

Anyway, not to switch gears, but this is something that I need to acknowlege from last week, and, since I totally suck, I have yet to do.  Alisha at Izzy ‘N Emmy, bestowed upon me the honor of a blog award:

Thanks, Alisha.  I do feel truly honored.  I’m supposed to pass this award onto 7 other bloggers, which would be impossible to pick just seven.  Plus, since I’m mostly a lurker, I have a feeling that if I were to pass on the honor, people would be like, “Gigglewho?”.  So I’ll do this:  on my ever-changing list of bloggy favorites, this is by no means a complete list, but these are some of my current haunts:

  1. How About Orange— chock full of fun, free downloads & cool crafty ideas.
  2. Softies Central— not your average plush toys here!
  3. Sugar City Journal—  two ladies with an abundance of talent– LOVE that village frock!
  4. Thimble— lots of links to tutorials & visual inspiration.
  5. Posie Gets Cozy—  some great food posts, photos, and a creative perspective on life.
  6. The Artful Parent— Chronicles of a Toddler Art Group- some great ideas for the wee ones.
  7. Poop and Boogies— my daily dose of reality.

Thanks again!!

  1. I think I may start calling Max and Wyatt Jules and Vincent.

  2. Your comment made me laugh b/c I was JUST catching up on your blog to see how the pregnancy was coming along and thinking to myself “geez, she doesn’t post a whole lot of pics of herself.” But I did see your one pic on the carousel, and you look great! And yes, the first glance is a bit eerie. 🙂 Hope all is well. And just think – three boys to keep you on your feet = never being allowed to sit down = never worrying about gaining weight. 🙂 Congratulations!

  3. You deserved the award and although I lurk on your page more often than not, I still wanted to pass it you.

As for your weird day the other day, I have those at least once a week. The girls refuse to nap and then are ready to finally take one about 5 or 6 or 7…They sleep through the night without a peep and then they too wake up at the crack of dawn! Haha! I like them in bed early, but holy cow, sleep in a little! LOL!

    Have a great weekend!
